Replication vs Duplication

At first glance replicated products and duplicated products look very similar. However, the actual manufacturing process for each is very different.

Replicated media is produced from an individual glass master and pressed into a blank CD or DVD in one physical stamping operation and protected with a coating. A store bought music CD is a good example of this method. Common quantities are 1,000 and up.

Duplicated media is burned into a DVD-R or CD-R by writing data sequentially using a CD burner. One major drawback is its lack of a protective coating. This method is commonly used for short run applications and very fast turn times. Common quantities are typically 1 - 500.
